While in Toronto, I was able to catch up with friends, I had a few dinners out after work on Monday and Tuesday. My brain was a bit scattered; I was leaving things all over the city. Onboarding was 2 solid days of information on the organizational mission, vision and values along with getting set up as an employee. Tuesday night we had a cocktail hour which allowed us to tour the studios. The best surprise of onboarding, someone I used to work with at Bell and whom I share a birthday with was in the same class. It was so great to catch up with her and see our life paths over the last ten years.

This week we tested the waters of our new life, I was only gone Monday-Wednesday. I left later on Monday and got home late on Wednesday night. I came back to flowers; a lovely surprise, perhaps I was missed.

Thursday and Friday we commuted into the city together. For the vast majority of January, I will be working out of the Montreal office while I get my bearings in the new role. There will be a few overnight trips to Ottawa during the month, and then in February, I will make it my home base Monday-Thursday.

Adjustment- would be the word of the week, we are getting used to coming home from work later and having to cook dinner when we walk through the door and then prepare for the following day.

Our new reality is better for my mental health, but it’s a bit more physically demanding compounded with the mental fatigue of drinking from a firehose learning a new job.

This weekend was all about prep, we have accomplished all of the shopping, I am making some of my meals for the week. My other half is making spaghetti sauce, and we are getting ready for our first night with the kids with both of us working. To add to the excitement, the middle child is turning 12 tomorrow.

As things move along, this process will become smoother, and we will adjust to our new reality. Next week, I also start school on Saturday, so the excitement continues.
