Hello World,
Well, it’s been a few months since I have posted, and for a good reason life just got complicated in the fall. I was in the middle of a job search, trying to adjust to my new life and my seasonal depression was the worst it has been in many years, I liken this due to the fact that I was working from home and not interacting with enough people.
In October my boss decided to post my current role and he sent me the posting an hour before it went live. The narrative was always this job could only be done from Markham, and that is why I was being put on contract, it was imperative that the person was in the office. The posting comes out, with no location specified and a note from him that although the role looks the same and no site is included, it’s not the same role.
Luckily, I was in the final stages of accepting an offer when all this craziness was going on, so I knew my days were limited. I was hired by the other company but the catch, headcount was frozen until 2019 so I would have to endure my current situation for a few months. I made the decision to take a month off in between job. I was able to say goodbye to the craziness on Dec 7th.
This role was insane, but overall the people at the company were incredible, so I am really going to miss that aspect. I, unfortunately, made a decision to move into a department that was not the best for my career development. In the words of Arianna Grande – Thank You Next.
With job certainty, the situation became a bit more tolerable knowing that the end was near, however winter came early to Montreal. I stopped with the language classes because I was getting frustrated with the focus on complex grammar concepts and my ability to speak the language had not improved. We started receiving snow in early November, and it got frigid. This in tandem with not leaving the house increased the effect of my seasonal depression.
My other half and I booked a vacation to Cuba in December, so I just need to hold on a bit longer. Our vacation was great, we became even closer after a snorkelling incident. We were able to get the rest and relaxation we both needed. The prior 5 months have been so busy with the move, renting my condo, vacation with the kids, adjusting to domestic life and my job. I was able to unwind and start to see our future.
We got back, and we were into the holiday season, I took some time to bake and finish our Christmas shopping, his car went in for an oil change and finished up some banking. Over the holiday season, we went to the cottage on Christmas day to spend time with his family, tobogganing with his cousins and all the kids, and then New Year’s day at his Moms.
I took on the project of painting the bathroom while he and the kids were sick on Boxing Day. I am slowly but surely adding my touch to the house to make it feel like my house too, which shortly it will be as well. (more to come on that when it closes) He and I made an overnight trip to Gatineau. My new job will be in Ottawa so we will be living apart 3 days a week. We dropped some stuff at my new apartment, went to the casino for the evening and then to the spa the next days.
I think I am ready to go back to work, today is my last full day off. Monday I am on a flight to Toronto to let the onboarding being.
Let’s this exciting next chapter begin!
